Our Lady of Sorrows also known as Mater Dolorosa is dedicated to Mary's suffering and grief in union with Jesus her son Our Lord. There are seven sorrows. The Prophecy of Simeon ( Luke 2:25-35) The Flight into Egypt (Matt 2:13-15) The Loss of Jesus in the Temple ( Luke 2:41-50) The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross (John 19:17) The Crucifixion (John19:25-30) The Taking Down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross (John 19:31-37) Jesus laid in the Tomb (John 19:38-42) Mary was with her son every step of the way. Lent is an excellent time to contemplate on Mary's sorrows and to ask for the grace of sharing with her in the Passion of Jesus.
