The Spanish flu was a whole different animal. No comparison to today. There were few hospitals, poorly-trained medical professionals, no antibiotics, no welfare state assistance, no vaccines, sparse knowledge about contagion, no ventilators, no respirators, poor sanitation, no social media to provoke instantaneous panic or to spread disinformation. People typically died in their homes from whatever their health problems were and death was a reality in their lives. Longevity for the typical person was 49 years. There were no tests to determine disease and people fended for themselves. Faith and belief in God was the norm. We are blessed today in so many ways compared to the past.
